Hi there! And welcome to our Share App Plugin video. Before you continue watching, please make sure you’ve seen our Two Minute Overview Video first, which you can access by clicking here.
Now, onto the Share App Plugin.
The Share App Plugin lets your users share your app with just a tap. They’ll have access to your app’s QR code and have the option to share it via email, social media, text and more. This will share your app’s download link to their friends and followers. Word-of-mouth is a powerful way for people to learn about your app, and this plugin makes that super easy for your users to do.
The first thing you might ask is, “When users share my app — where do I want them to go?” You can control this option under Settings > Sharing Settings. You can link users to certain places, depending on what kind of device they’re on. If you cho ose our System Defaults, then the shared link will refer them to the App Store download links and our built-in promo page. However, you can also supply your own links. You can create a short link to your app’s download pages to track how many people click through or you can build your own landing pages that the Share App Plugin can link to.
If your app hasn’t been published yet, then clicking this will not generate all of the links because, well, your app isn’t on the app stores yet. Once you’ve published, then the links will be available.
Now that we’ve gone over an important aspect of the Share App Plugin, let’s move onto creating one. To add a Share App plugin to your app, go to Plugins and Add Plugin. Find the Share App Plugin, click add, then name it. I suggest calling it something like “Share This App”. If you’d like to also add this plugin to your Side Menu, you can simply check this box. If not, no worries, we’ll go over how to add it to the Side Menu later on in the video.
You’ll see here there are 3 sections: Image Carousel, Content Body, and Share Message. Click Add Image to choose one or more images from your Media Library or upload one from your computer. If you already have some images uploaded, like we have shown here, just select one and click Insert Selection. To learn more about how to use our Media Library, check out our video here.
Content Body is a text within the plugin that will show up below the “Share App” button. This could be a place to incentivize your user to share your app, a thank you message, or you can just leave it blank. This part of the plugin is powered by our Text WYSIWYG. You can learn more about it here.
Share Message is the message that will accompany the shared link to download your app, such as the message in a Tweet or Facebook post. Put in a call to action or add an incentive for your users’ friends to click through. Ask yourself — what would be someone’s main motivation when downloading and using your app? Use that answer to craft your share message. It can say something like, “Download this app and get a $5 coupon!” Or “This 5-Star restaurant has an awesome menu!” You can get super creative here.
Here’s how it will look in practice. After opening your app, your users can proceed to the Share App Plugin and tap on “Share App Via…”. A menu will pop up showcasing all of the different platforms they can share it on. Here’s what it will look like on Twitter…and Email. You can see how easy it is for users to share your app with their family and friends with this Plugin.
And with that, you’re pretty much set. You’ve now created your Share App Plugin! Don’t forget to click Publish to push out your changes. If you haven’t upgraded, please upgrade so that you can publish your changes.
Now, users aren’t able to share your app yet since the plugin has only been created and not placed in your app. You will need to add it to the app on the Home Plugin, in a Folder Plugin, and/or to the Side Menu. If you already know how to do this, feel free to skip this next section.
If you have the Launcher or Folder Plugin selected for your Home Plugin, you can add it to the Home Plugin by clicking go to Home Plugin. Once you’re there, scroll down and click “Add Plugin Instance”. Now find the plugin you created by searching for the title you gave it, selecting it, and clicking “Apply” at the bottom.
To add it to a Folder Plugin, navigate to any Folder Plugin you’ve created and click on “Add Plugin Instance”, then search for the title you gave it, select it, and click “Apply” at the bottom.
To add it to the Side Menu, go to Plugins then Side Menu and click on “Select Plugin Instance” and, you guessed it, search for the title you gave it, select it, and click “Apply” at the bottom.
Congratulations! The Share App Plugin is now accessible within your app. Thank you so much for watching. Be sure to check out our other Help Videos and we’ll see you next time!
